The Government has proposed reforms to ensure that victims of domestic abuse are protected, and abusers cannot continue to abuse their victims through the Court system. The Government seeks to provide more protection to those in need.
The review was undertaken by an expert panel of more than 1,200 individuals and organisations, including domestic abuse charities and family law lawyers.
The proposals include:
Reviews of powers available to the Courts to issue barring orders to prevent abusers from issuing repeated applications to the Court, making their victims return to court over and over again to continue the abuse;
More separate building entrances and waiting rooms; and
More protective screens to safeguard victims from their alleged abuser.
Let’s hope that the upcoming reforms ensure that victims are not put through any unnecessary risk when attending Court.
